Core responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair medium/heavy-duty vehicles across steering, electrical, cooling, lubrication, braking, driveline, suspension, hydraulic/power steering, clutch, transmission, fuel, emissions, and engine systems—including testing, adjustment, and rebuilds.
  • Conduct post-repair test drives to validate fix quality and performance.
  • Secure required inspections and approvals for major repairs prior to vehicle release.
  • Maintain an orderly, compliant, and safe workspace aligned with all relevant federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Identify and escalate additional repair or maintenance needs, including items requiring higher-level technician qualifications.
  • Accurately record labor hours, parts consumption, and detailed service notes.
  • Handle road calls and perform on-site repairs as needed.
  • Inform the Lead Technician of unsafe conditions, practices, or suspected vehicle abuse.

Qualifications & credentials

  • 4–5 years’ experience as a fleet mechanic for medium/heavy trucks.
  • Advanced diagnostics with proven electrical and A/C competencies.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of major vehicle systems and diesel equipment.
  • Fleet background with both diesel and gasoline units.
  • Ownership of recommended minimum Diesel Technician hand tools.
  • Strong judgment and decision-making under time and safety constraints.
  • Valid state driver’s license; CDL preferred.
  • ASE certification desirable but not required.
