Opportunity
We are hiring a Senior HVAC / Chiller Technician to join our rapidly growing factory operations team in Mesa, Arizona. This is a high-impact senior-level role for experienced HVAC and chiller professionals who thrive in hands-on technical environments and enjoy mentoring junior technicians. You will play a key role supporting testing, troubleshooting, validation, and commissioning of newly manufactured chiller and HVAC systems prior to deployment into mission-critical environments.
Position Overview
The Senior Technician will lead testing, troubleshooting, and validation efforts for advanced HVAC and chiller equipment within a factory test environment. This role partners closely with engineering, manufacturing, controls, and quality teams to ensure equipment performance, reliability, and customer readiness. The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical, refrigeration, electrical, and controls troubleshooting experience and enjoys helping develop junior technicians and apprentices.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead functional testing and validation of HVAC and chiller systems in a factory environment
• Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, refrigeration, electrical, and controls-related issues
• Support equipment start-up, commissioning, and performance verification activities
• Mentor and train junior technicians on troubleshooting methods, safety procedures, and best practices
• Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and technical documentation
• Perform repairs, corrective actions, and system adjustments as needed
• Document test results, deficiencies, repairs, and commissioning activities accurately
• Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to resolve technical issues and improve product quality
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within testing and manufacturing operations
Work Environment
• Factory-based role supporting production test bays and manufacturing operations
• Hands-on work with large commercial HVAC, CRAH, and chiller systems
• Collaborative environment working alongside engineers, quality teams, and field service personnel
• Overtime may be required based on production schedules and customer demand
What You’ll Do (Day-to-Day)
• Lead testing and troubleshooting activities on newly manufactured chiller systems
• Mentor Jr. Technicians and help elevate technical capability across the team
• Diagnose refrigeration, electrical, controls, and mechanical system issues
• Support commissioning and operational performance testing
• Assist with process improvements, root cause analysis, and technical problem solving
• Work with advanced thermal management systems supporting hyperscale AI data centers
What You Bring
• 5+ years of HVAC, chiller, or commercial/industrial mechanical experience
• Strong troubleshooting experience with chillers, HVAC systems, refrigeration, and controls
• Experience with commissioning, start-up, or factory testing environments preferred
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings
• Strong mentoring mindset with the ability to support and train junior technicians
• EPA 608 Certification required
• Experience using hand tools, gauges, meters, and diagnostic equipment
• Reliable, safety-focused, and detail-oriented with strong communication skills
Nice to Have
• Experience with large commercial chillers, CRAH units, or mission-critical cooling systems
• Exposure to ABB drives, PLCs, or building automation/control systems
• Previous experience supporting data centers or mission-critical environments
• Technical trade school or HVAC certification
