Summary

The Product Project Manager owns the execution of the product once an order is released for delivery.

This role translates customer commitments into a manufactured, tested, and fully documented product that is ready to ship and install. The Product PM leads cross-functional execution across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, and quality to ensure delivery on time, on cost, and on quality.

What You Own End-to-End

• Product execution from order release through shipment readiness

• Schedule, cost, and quality performance of the manufactured product

• Readiness of all tests, inspections, and quality documentation

• Completeness of documentation required for field installation and service

What You Do

• Lead day-to-day coordination across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, and quality

• Ensure engineering releases and manufacturing work instructions are complete and approved

• Ensure materials, capacity, and logistics plans align with delivery commitments

• Manage risks, changes, and deviations impacting scope, cost, or schedule

• Ensure factory testing and acceptance activities are completed and documented

• Prepare and hand over a complete service readiness package prior to shipment

Who You Work With

• Sales Project Managers who own the customer relationship and approvals

• Service Project Managers who own field execution after shipment

• Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Logistics, and Quality teams

What You Do Not Own

• Customer relationship management or commercial negotiations

• On-site installation, start-up, or commissioning execution

• Direct management of field technicians or subcontractors

First-Year Focus

• Stabilize manufacturing readiness and execution discipline

• Reduce late changes and execution surprises

• Improve product and documentation handover quality to Service

• Strengthen cross-functional delivery performance

Responsible vs Support

Accountable

• Manufacturing readiness and execution

• Product cost, schedule, and quality

• Completeness of the Service handover package

Responsible

• Driving engineering releases and approvals

• Coordinating manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, and quality

• Managing execution risks and changes

• Sales PM by validating feasibility of customer commitments

• Service PM by providing accurate product documentation and clarifications

Governance Rules

• Product PM is not accountable for customer communications

• Product PM is not accountable for site execution

• Upon handover of the service readiness package:

• Service PM becomes accountable for execution

• Product PM remains in a support role only
