Turntide’s Transport group is based in the Northeast of England and is focused on delivering electrification systems – energy storage, power electronics and advanced electric motors – to deliver emissions-free mobility and industrial machines across global markets.

There is a massive change happening across industrial Transportation. Globally there is a rapid shift to new electrified platforms to meet the demands of their end users looking to reduce carbon emissions and create entirely new product types. Our Turntide for Electrification solutions help ease the customer journey and accelerate their transition.

We are hiring for an Applications Engineer who will join global Product Applications Engineering Team to accelerate our customers’ product design and integration work with Turntide’s products to support pre- and post-sales activities, bring in-house new customers insights and deliver best-in-class Customer Experience.

An Applications Engineer’s primary responsibility will be to support our Sales team, providing technical advice and expertise to new and existing customers of the Turntide Transport product range including power electronics inverters, battery storage systems, electric motors, and thermal products. The role can be based at one of our sites (Gateshead, Cramlington or Sunderland) in UK and reports into the Director, Product Applications Engineering.

Job Role

In this role the Applications Engineer will be responsible for the following:

  • Supporting the installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and customer training of Turntide products or solutions remotely or at global customer locations.
  • Providing technical support to customers queries, RFQs, or design reviews related to Turntide’s products and ensure they are handled within the allotted time.
  • Verifying and validating product and systems configured or customised for customer usage to ensure the customer needs are met.
  • Collaborating with engineering team or domain expert to resolve difficult in-field issues in a prompt manner.
  • Partner with our Sales, Product & Engineering organizations to drive new business opportunities, improving the customer experience whilst bringing new customer insights back in-house for future product developments.
  • Generating, reviewing, and maintaining Turntide’s product collateral (e.g., datasheet, user manual) and applications related documentation (e.g. FAQs, application notes, customer visit reports).
  • Supporting design for installation and maintenance activities as part of the development projects.
  • Providing build/assembly support during the prototype, pilot, and production phases.

Experience and Skills

We’re looking for candidates with the following experience and skills:

  • Technical background or experience in one or more of the following or relevant:
    • Battery storage solutions / Battery Management Systems
    • Power Electronics (Inverters, DCDCs, OBCs)
  • Experience in working with customers in technical setting, including team problems solving and solution selling.
  • Ability to work from technical manuals, work instructions, work orders and follow-up of historic troubleshooting findings and notes.
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and principles
  • Commercial acumen and results driven.
  • Ability to quickly build a rapport with customers.
  • Must be able to travel domestically or internationally (sometimes with limited notice)

It would also be great (but not essential) if in addition to the above you also had:

  • Knowledge of Functional Safety e.g. ISO26262, IEC61508, D0178B
  • Knowledge of EMC, Environmental, Product Safety and Electrical test standards e.g. ISO16750, ECE R10, R100
  • Experience in on highway, off highway or non-road industries
  • Experience presenting at industry events, customer events, STEM, etc.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical, Electronics, or related engineering field.

  • Relevant engineering or technical experience could also be considered.
