Job Summary: The Senior Buyer is responsible for managing the procurement of materials, components, and services necessary for the manufacturing operations. This role involves developing and maintaining supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality materials.
Responsibilities:
- Work with Purchasing Leadership to develop and implement procurement strategies to ensure cost-effective and timely acquisition of materials and services.
- Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers based on quality, cost, and delivery performance.
- Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with suppliers to achieve the best values for the company.
- Monitor supplier performance and address any issues related to quality, delivery, or cost.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to ensure materials meet specifications and production requirements.
- Manage inventory levels to optimize stock and reduce excess inventory.
- Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends and potential new suppliers.
- Prepare and present procurement reports and analysis to senior management.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
- Mentor and train junior procurement staff.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or a related field.
- 7-10 years of procurement experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with global sourcing and international trade regulations preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong understanding of procurement principles and practices.
- Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.
- Proficiency in procurement software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and supply chain management.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with global sourcing and international trade regulations.
Work Environment:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds with or without assistance.
- Must be able to access all areas of the facility to determine purchasing needs.
- Must be able to travel including occasional weekend travel (up to 30%)
Salary Description
$85,000 - $100,000
