Summary Of The Role
The Shift Manager, Liquefaction, is one of the critical roles in the production organization, with a primary responsibility to ensure safe, efficient start-up, shutdown, and operational activities of the Rio Grande LNG and NEXT Carbon Solutions facility. This role will ensure that the personnel, processes, and procedures are in place and adequate to provide safe, sustainable and reliable plant operations. The Shift Manager Liquefaction must successfully communicate with the necessary team members, maintenance and other supporting groups.
As a key front-line leader at RGLNG, the Shift Manager, Liquefaction will interact directly with a large group of stakeholders from various asset disciplines (Maintenance, Engineers, HSSE, C&P), contractors, and vendors, necessitating the completion of leadership, HSSE, and soft skills-specific training.

- Manage the shift workforce, and other resources in a manner that meets the daily Safe operations, and performance in terms of timing, quality and quantity
- Manage an integrated operation involving a wide range of processing units including feed gas pipeline, gas pre-treatment, liquefaction, utilities, LNG storage and loading
- Ensure compliance with all RGLNG procedures and policies
- Contribute to operating procedures, safe work practices, continuous improvement and other relevant improvement initiatives by providing the input necessary to update them on a frequent basis
- Demonstrate effective safety leadership by participating in walkdowns and sharing observations with coworkers
- Responsible for performing the functions listed in the various Operation Management System elements, such as safe systems of work, operations production management, knowledge management, and Marine management, in accordance with approved processes
- Responsible for ensuring all safety, process safety, and quality events are reported in a timely manner
- Act as a coach and mentor to all shift operation team, and act proactively to fill any competence gap. Assist in development and execution of a training plan for each of their shift team members
- During the commissioning and start-up phase, actively support project activities such as P&ID punching, system completeness checks, punch close-out checks, cleaning activities (flushing, air blowing, blasting, degreasing), and reviewing pre-commissioning and commissioning procedures
- Support the development and utilize Digitization/IT initiatives that challenge industry norms and future proof the business
- As Incident Commander, respond to emergencies by leading the shift emergency team and following established protocols
- May require travelling for meetings and/or training
- Work rotating twelve (12) hour shift system, including night shift, weekends, and holidays required. With respect to the RGLNG fatigue management procedure, you may be required to work longer hours on occasion due to plant requirements such as commissioning, start-up/shutdown, and turnaround activities
- Will be required to work a Commissioning Roster during the commissioning phase of the Facility
- High School diploma or GED Equivalent
- 10 years of expertise in LNG operations at a large-scale facility
- 5 years in a leadership role at a large LNG/gas processing facility
- Ability to get a Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC)
- One Team – the position requires working well in a team environment, and able to work with a diverse workforce
- Skilled Knowledge of permit to work systems
- Skilled knowledge in providing constructive feedback for continuous development of the team
- Skilled in reporting, having the ability to gather, process and communicate all shift activities effectively, and in a timely manner
- Time Management – Managing one's own time and assist others in their time management where appropriate
- Effective Communications – Accurate, clear, concise, timely and effective communication is vital to this role
- Proficient in the use of Teams, and the entire Microsoft suite including excel, word, outlook required
- Strong knowledge in using the following software platforms: CMMS, DMS, LIMS
- Must be willing to be on call, work outside of normal business hours as required and handle emergency response responsibilities
- Adaptability to manage changes in work environment in regards adhering to updated deadlines or unexpected delays
- Computer literate including proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Bachelor’s Degree in Process or Chemical Engineering
- 5 years’ experience in a large-scale facility utilizing APCI C3MR technology
- Must be able to wear all necessary PPE equipment to perform job functions
- Operates in a complex construction environment
- Exposure to indoor and outdoor weather conditions
- Not necessarily protected from weather and temperature changes. Possible exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts and electrical circuits
- Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds of a pitch level sufficient to cause marked distraction
- Routinely uses standard office and field communications equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers w/scanner and fax, and radios
- Ability to drive to other Company work locations as required
- Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility, including being physically capable of traveling to a designed muster point during emergency situations
- Stand and/or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift
- The incumbent is required to have fully mechanical motion and usage of all extremities
- Physically able to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle, and lift items weighing up to 20 lbs. without assistance
- Visual acuity corrected to perform job functions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Must be able to clearly communicate with others via radio, phone, and verbal methods
- May be required to enter confined spaces
- May be required to work at elevated heights and access elevated structures without assistance
