JOB SUMMARY

The Process Engineer ensures that the proper process design is employed for the engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup of NextDecade projects. This position is crucial in overseeing the EPC contractor's activities across multiple projects. Responsibilities include ensuring the development of comprehensive and safe process scopes, validating the suitability of process design deliverables, and overseeing the safe and efficient completion and execution of commissioning and startup plans. The position is based in Houston, TX initially then will require mobilization to the RGLNG site in Brownsville, TX to support construction, commissioning and start-up, and early post-handover operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Key member of the process engineering team which supports the interface across all engineering disciplines to ensure the design intent of the process and supporting utilities are met.
  • QA/QC review of all applicable calculations by EPC contractor, and provide comments and guidance as appropriate.
  • Validate content of drawings and specifications from EPC contractor to ensure that they meet the Scope of Work and Basis of Design
  • Write new Owner process equipment and piping specifications, develop new details, as required for project.
  • Analyze process systems and develop methods for de-bottlenecking.
  • Prepare technical documents (P&ID’s, PFD’s) for Hazards Analysis and lead HAZOPs and other formal safety reviews.
  • Review control philosophies and sequence of operations for processes.
  • Review Designer’s quality on RFI answers, and submittal review
  • Write studies and reports for process systems on projects.
  • Perform economic evaluations for processes.
  • Perform front-end loading of process systems.
  • Review and monitor process design and engineering of LNG liquefaction plant
  • Coordinate process technology licensor activities
  • Provide timely review of Contractor process engineering deliverables including PFD, PID, HMB, Datasheets, equipment sizing, DPDT, hydraulic calculations, Process descriptions etc.
  • Supports risk management activities such as LOPA and HAZOP
  • Provide support to operations readiness, commissioning and start-up activities
  • Resolve process engineering issues with EPC contractor, consultants, operations, maintenance and others including responses to FERC

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 5+ years' experience in similar positions on large capital development projects or brownfield projects
  • 3+ years' experience in LNG, ethylene, cryogenics, or refinining projects
  • Knowledge of applicable process specifications and requirements.
  • Strong Knowledge of major industry regulations, codes and standards
  • Experience with process simulation programs such as HYSYS, Unisim, PRO II, ProMax etc. required with demonstrated real world model validation and application.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years' experience in LNG projects
  • Has a thorough and in-depth understanding of APCI liquefaction process.
  • Uses 3D model software such as SmartPlant Review or Navisworks to review the physical design of a plant.
  • EIT in the State of Texas

Work Environment & Physical Demands with or without reasonable accommodations

  • Operates in a complex construction environment.
  • Work is performed both in controlled room environment and in the field in sometimes challenging weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to wear all mandatory/necessary PPE equipment to perform job functions.
  • Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility, including being physically capable of traveling to a designed muster point during emergency situations.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate with others via radio, phone, and verbal methods.
