SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

Responsible for leading the strategic data and AI initiatives, ensuring alignment with business goals and fostering innovation. Developing, owning, and maintaining data governance standards and architecture in sync with NextDecade's cybersecurity framework and enterprise data governance.

Guiding teams to leverage data for competitive advantage, drive data-driven decision-making, and ensure regulatory compliance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads cross functional teams including AI engineers, data scientists, data visualization engineers etc. to transform data into actionable insights
  • Develop data architectures that enable efficient gathering, storage and retrieval of data across Enterprise (IT and OT) systems
  • Work Closely with internal SMEs NextDecade business functions Data Governance requirements and its impact to the Cloud Services. Identify and mitigate potential gaps/risks.
  • Will bring the voice of data & AI to business cases, commercial strategies, partnership explorations and vendor pricing discussions
  • Responsible for developing and executing AI strategies, models and solutions that meets the need of NextDecade
  • Establish best practices for AI and machine learning and oversee the AI lifecycle
  • Commitment to ethical AI practices, ensuring AI systems are transparent, explainable, and free from biases to promote fairness, accountability, and transparency in AI applications
  • Responsible for regular updates to data and AI strategies to incorporate emerging AI technologies, with investments in AI-ready infrastructure.

EDUCATION, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, & COMPETENCIES

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • 8+ years of experience designing, building and supporting large scale modern data platforms
  • Experience in managing multiple, large, cross-functional teams or projects, and influencing senior level management and key stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear and actionable requirements.

Experience:

  • Knowledge of master data management, document management, and data warehouses
  • Knowledge of data security policy creation, data security control definitions and data security governance processes
  • Knowledge of Data Governance Services (e.g. Azure Purview etc.), AI/ML(e.g. Azure ML Studio), Gen-AI LLMs models (e.g. Azure Open AI etc.). As well as the guardrails around Responsible AI
  • Working knowledge of Data Architecture, Encryption, Privacy Policies and Backup/Archival processes

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment with occasional work within or outside of a complex construction environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers/fax, filing cabinets, etc. This is primarily a sedentary role; however, the incumbent must be able to stand and/or sit continuously to perform all essential job functions for a full shift.

  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. as required in order to lift files, boxes and office equipment as necessary.
  • Ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending, standing on a stool, or climbing as necessary to perform these functions.
