Sales Engineer
Kelvin
TL;DR
We’re looking for a Houston-based Sales Engineer with 5+ years of experience to join our Product team and play a key role in product demos, customer engagement, and technical sales support. This role bridges Sales, Product, and Engineering, ensuring customer requirements are understood. A key responsibility is also influencing product roadmap decisions. If you have a background in presales, technical demos, product integration, solution delivery, and customer engagement, we’d love to hear from you. Experience in Data, Analytics and Digital products in Energy, Oil and Gas, Manufacturing or industrial automation is a strong plus.
The Role
As a Sales Engineer at Kelvin, you’ll be embedded within the Product team, acting as a crucial link between customer needs, sales efforts, and product development. You’ll own technical demonstrations, gather customer product and solution requirements, support roadmap decisions, and help drive product integrations. While this role supports sales teams, it is not a quota-carrying position—instead, it ensures that the product and solutions align with market demands and customer challenges.
What You’ll Do
- Lead product demonstrations, showcasing Kelvin’s industrial automation solutions to prospective and existing customers.
- Translate customer needs into solution and product insights, ensuring they are reflected in the roadmap.
- Work closely with the product team to refine feature priorities and product integrations.
- Act as a technical advisor to the sales team, helping them articulate the product’s value proposition, solution architecture and system integrations.
- Conduct competitive analysis, identifying strengths, gaps, and opportunities to support the sales motion.
- Collaborate with the Solutions Engineering team to ensure smooth implementation and delivery for customers.
- Assist in defining and refining technical sales materials, ensuring messaging is clear and compelling.
What You Bring
- 5+ years in sales engineering, presales, or technical customer engagement, ideally in industrial automation, IoT, or SaaS.
- Strong technical aptitude, with the ability to explain complex solutions in a clear, customer-friendly way.
- Experience in product integration and working closely with product teams to shape roadmap decisions.
- Ability to gather and interpret customer feedback, translating it into actionable insights for product development.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills, comfortable engaging with both technical and business stakeholders.
- Must be located in Houston, TX, with the ability to work onsite as needed.
You’ll Thrive in This Role If:
- You love working at the intersection of product and sales, balancing technical depth with customer engagement.
- You can confidently lead technical demos and guide customers through complex solutions.
- You have a problem-solving mindset, ensuring customer needs are met while influencing product direction.
- You understand industry trends and can contribute to competitive positioning.
What This Role Doesn’t Include:
- A quota-carrying sales role—you’ll support the sales process but won’t own revenue targets.
- Traditional software development—this role requires technical fluency but focuses on customer engagement and product alignment.
- Standalone product management—you’ll influence the roadmap but won’t directly own product development cycles.
