Journeyman HVAC Technician
Position Summary
Basin Solutions is recruiting on behalf of a valued client seeking an experienced Journeyman HVAC Technician to join their growing team. This role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, servicing, and repair of residential HVAC systems including heat pumps, mini splits, air conditioning systems, and related equipment.
The ideal candidate is safety-focused, mechanically inclined, customer-service oriented, and experienced working independently in residential environments.
Key Responsibilities
Installation
- Install residential HVAC systems including:
- Heat pumps
- Mini split systems
- Central air conditioning systems
- Associated ducting, controls, and components
- Interpret blueprints, manufacturer specifications, and installation requirements
- Ensure installations comply with applicable building codes, manufacturer standards, and company quality expectations
- Pull permits as required and ensure work complies with municipal, provincial, and code requirements
- Complete startup, commissioning, and performance testing of installed systems
Service & Repair
- Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC system issues efficiently and accurately
- Perform repairs, replacements, and system adjustments on residential HVAC equipment
- Conduct preventative maintenance and seasonal service inspections
- Identify and communicate additional repair or replacement recommendations to customers
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation
Customer Service
- Provide professional and courteous service to homeowners
- Explain system issues, repair options, and maintenance recommendations clearly
- Maintain a clean and respectful work environment within customer homes
- Represent the company professionally at all times
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety procedures and applicable occupational health and safety regulations
- Properly use PPE and required safety equipment
- Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment in safe working condition
- Participate in safety meetings and training as required
Qualifications
- Must be a Journeyman Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic
- Red Seal certification considered an asset
- Valid refrigeration handling certification/ticket
- Experience installing and servicing residential HVAC systems
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities
- Experience with heat pumps, mini splits, and air conditioning systems required
- Knowledge of applicable building codes and permitting requirements
- Ability to work independently and manage service calls efficiently
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Valid driver’s license with clean driver’s abstract
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in various residential environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with smart thermostats and modern HVAC controls
- Electrical troubleshooting experience
- Experience with high-efficiency and inverter-driven systems
- Gas fitting certification considered an asset
Working Conditions
- Residential indoor and outdoor work environments
- Frequent lifting, climbing ladders, kneeling, and working in confined spaces
- Occasional after-hours or emergency service work may be required
- Travel to customer sites within the service area
