The selected candidate will play an essential role in advancing the company’s environmental, social, governance and safety practices. The scope of responsibilities includes leading global initiatives, driving experimental design, conducting in-depth data analysis, and reporting, implementing, and enhancing Standard Operating Procedures in safety and ESG, optimizing metallurgical processes, and setting precise material standards. The person will also lead the standardization of our global safety practices and define operating boundaries for employees in projects and operations.
This position will report to the Vice President of Business Transformation and will lead the EHS and ESG teams globally. The EHS and ESG Director is a multi-site role responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring the Environmental, Health, Safety (EHS) and Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) programs across all manufacturing and R&D plants. You will lead a team of EHS professionals within our plant sites to ensure all activities such as training, compliance, and 6S, are effectively implemented. You will have the opportunity to work with global EHS regulatory agencies and collaborate to set the EHS strategy and implement company policy. You will also be responsible for further developing our ESG framework and data collection.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Coaches, mentors, and develops a team of diverse and experienced EHS professionals and leaders.
- Establishes high quality relationships with both site and department leadership.
- Provides the leadership, direction and support necessary to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations and standards to meet or exceed relevant internal and external safety & environmental standards in a manner consistent with sound business practice.
- Develops strategic plans in collaboration with business and functional needs to develop, implement, and administer environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs.
- Develops health and safety policies and procedures (ergonomics, 6S, illness and injury prevention and building safety) including those pertaining to hazardous materials and work areas.
- Drives EHS performance to support Key Performance Indicators in line with business expectations.
- Ensures objectives align with current best practices for occupational health and environmental health and safety.
- Monitors performance of EHS programs and regulatory compliance with all internal and global regulations.
- Developing ESG Strategies: Crafting and implementing ESG strategies that align with the organization's goals, values, and industry best practices.
- Compliance and Reporting: Ensuring adherence to ESG regulations and frameworks, as well as producing accurate and timely ESG reports.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to promote awareness and collaboration on ESG initiatives.
- Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating ESG-related risks that could impact the organization's reputation and long-term viability.
- Impact Measurement: Establishing metrics and frameworks to assess and communicate the organization's ESG performance and impact.
- Integration of ESG Across Functions: Collaborating with various departments to embed ESG considerations into business processes, supply chain management, and investment decisions.
- Industry Leadership: Staying updated on ESG trends, standards, and best practices, and driving thought leadership within the organization and the industry.
Required Qualifications
- BS in occupational health or engineering, MS, MBA, and/or CSP preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in occupational health and environmental safety in a manufacturing environment.
- 5+ Years’ experience as site EHS Manager in manufacturing environment.
- Experience in administering and auditing core critical safety programs (i.e., LOTO, fall protection) and hands-on experience in managing and/or auditing industrial factories.
- Experience managing workers compensation in conjunction with EHS initiatives.
- In-depth knowledge of ESG frameworks, standards (such as GRI, SASB, TCFD), and regulations.
- Understanding of sustainability and environmental management practices.
- Familiarity with impact measurement methodologies and reporting frameworks.
- Proficiency in data analysis and ability to derive insights from ESG-related metrics.
- Experience in ESG risk management and integration into investment strategies.
- Strong project management skills to drive ESG initiatives across the organization.
- Ability to conduct stakeholder engagement and manage relationships with investors, NGOs, and regulators.
- Proficient in ESG reporting tools and software.

Additional Information:
You will be working in a small team environment where teamwork and good relationships with other team members is critical. We operate pilot plants and labs and many of our staff members are required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and you should be prepared to do so as well when necessary.
