Title: RNC Application Engineer

Position Description:

We are looking for an Application Engineer to help accelerate the adoption of Aeroseal and AeroBarrier technologies in the Residential New Construction (RNC) marketplace. In this role, your duties will include developing and maintaining an extensive knowledge of our solutions and their application in the new construction environment. Building Science, as it relates to the energy measures installed in a building and evaluating air infiltration/leakage. Based on this knowledge, develop a well-informed perspective about our solutions from the vantage point of the builder, the contractor and the homeowner including drivers for what would likely propel adoption of our solutions and what might cause resistance to them in the market (technology, economic and labor availability factors, etc...).

A successful candidate will be comfortable studying and characterizing application-specific use cases, tracking industry trends (including code adoption and compliance), evaluating energy models and provide recommendations. Success will require engagement with builders, contractors, code officials, building science experts and other industry influencers to drive the adoption of Aeroseal and AeroBarrier.

Activities include:

  • Create and evaluate residential building energy models using REMRate & Ekotrope, provide recommendations for energy measures paired with AeroBarrier & AeroSeal applications
  • Travel to RNC jobsites to learn, to educate, and continually fine-tune the applications and provide recommendations to innovation and sustaining engineering.
  • Provide technical support to our network of installers, as needed situationally on occasion; AeroBarrier processes, building science questions, etc.
  • Assist Lead Application Engineer with improving technical training materials based on field feedback from dealers currently trained.
  • Collaborate with our technical team to develop, promote, and train our partners and customers on best practices for the application of Aeroseal and AeroBarrier.
  • Facilitate educational presentations for builders, architects, code officials, utility providers and 3rd party vendors, and government state agencies.
  • Assist with solution demos for architects, builders, utility providers, etc.
  • Assist Lead Application Engineer with duties of informing Marketing of technical and value proposition details that should underpin marketing messaging.
  • Support the growth of AeroSeal & AeroBarrier internationally with trainings, build evaluations, and demonstrations.
  • Support R&D of DOE Building America or other DOE-funded programs in conjunction with other Non-Profits to further the advancement of the technology and adoption.
  • Technical Support Team member – complete dealer trainings on occasion as Lead.
  • Propose and complete individual internal projects for the Application Engineering team; calibration of manometers, builder-specific evaluation for design improvement, energy design market study per climate zone or city, process improvements or equipment improvements

Expected Outcomes:

  • Drive the creation of compelling, application-specific use cases in the RNC marketplace.
  • Determine multiple value engineering pathways for building design using AeroBarrier in order to achieve client’s goals of energy/sustainable certifications, code compliance, utility incentives, and builder tax credits.
  • Build rapport and business relationships with industry partners and influencers to enhance and document the solution application process and help drive adoption of the Aeroseal and AeroBarrier technologies. These partners or resources include utilities, ICC, building code officials, UL, trade organizations, builders, insulation contractors, etc…
  • Assist in design of process flow for AeroBarrier installation, communication between AB Sales team, AB dealer Development, AB Trainers, Engineering, Tech Support/QC, & Operations.
  • Gain a thorough understanding of the construction industry, building science and remain up to date on industry education and news.
  • Assist Product Managers and Software Engineering with prototype design, alpha & beta field testing, and overall value to current/future dealers as well as different industry application to use the technology.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or similar field
  • Experience in residential building energy modeling; REMRate, Ekotrope, EnergyGauge, or HouseRater
  • BPI, HERS, RFI, or equivalent certification or training experience,
  • Minimum of 3 years in a construction management or building science related industry. IECC, Energy Star, LEED, WELL Standard, and/or Passive House experience a plus
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; the ability to call, connect and interact with contactors, builders, and other industry influencers.
  • Public speaking/presentation experience
  • PMP trained and/or certified (preferred)
  • The ability to effectively work with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Creative problem solver who thrives when presented with a challenge.
